Protecting the Health of Our Community

By now, most people have heard something about avian influenza or “bird flu.” The H5N1 bird flu strain is the most deadly widespread poultry disease in recorded history. The H5N1 flu virus is very likely to someday mutate or reassort into a new and fully human influenza virus, able to spread easily from one human to another. If the bird flu virus does change into a human flu, the result would almost certainly be a worldwide flu epidemic — a pandemic influenza.

The scope of the campaign was immense: “To Inform and educate the widely diverse populations of San Diego County about avian flu, pandemic flu and the differences between them, as well as how each resident and/or family needs to ‘Plan/Prepare/Protect’ before pandemic flu becomes a reality.”

The San Diego County Health and Human Services Agency (HHSA) recognized that a well-informed public is the only way to prevent a potential pandemic flu disaster in San Diego County. HHSA chose Red Lizard Creative as their partner in creating the comprehensive public education and information campaign.
